If you have been treating your acne with products containing benzoyl peroxide, FDA has just recalled a small number of products containing benzoyl peroxide due to possible benzene contamination. Benzene is a chemical that may increase the risk of cancer but scientists claim that even with daily use of these products for decades, the risk of a person developing cancer is very low. FDA tested 95 products and over 90% had undetectable or extremely low levels of benzene but there were six products that came out with elevated levels of benzene which are:
- La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo Dual Action Acne Treatment
- Walgreens Acne Control Cleanser
- Proactiv Emergency Blemish Relief Cream Benzoyl Peroxide 5%
- Proactiv Skin Smoothing Exfoliator
- SLMD Benzoyl Peroxide Acne Lotion
- Walgreens Tinted Acne Treatment Cream
